End Of Term 1:
Food Technology
Year 8 Food Studies
The year 8 Food Studies students have successfully completed their first CATs based on their learning of safety and hygiene.
The students had to create a flow chart that outlined the different safety and hygiene considerations at all stages of the cooking process of making a Chicken and Vegetable stir-fry. They then had to make their stir fry and critically evaluate the sensory properties using specific sensory evaluation language. They finished off their CAT giving their partner and themselves a review of performance.
Some of the comments from students include:
“I can’t wait to make this stir-fry at home for my family”
“I now know how to cook a stir fry safely”
“It turned out way tastier than I expected!”
The term has finished on a high with students keen to continue upskilling themselves in the kitchen next term.

Breakfast Club
Over the course of Term 1, our dedicated student leaders have had a strong start running the Breakfast Club program with teamwork and resilience.
During the Term, a large number of students, teachers, and staff have been attending Breakfast Club to enjoy a nice nutritious breakfast just before the school day starts. It has been incredibly rewarding to see all our efforts in planning and organising the weekly Breakfast Club have paid off and positively impacted our school community. Currently, our menu consists of, cheese/and ham toasties and quesadillas, cereal, milk, and juice boxes.
Our Term 1 Celebratory Breakfast Club will be held on Wednesday the 1st of April and the menu will consist of, cheese/and ham toasties, quesadillas, bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, milkshakes, juice boxes and more. Overall, the Breakfast Club program has had a strong start for Term 1, and we hope to see even more people come to Breakfast Club throughout the year.
We acknowledge all the students that come help us in their time to make the Breakfast Club continue to thrive, and it is deeply appreciated.

Year 10 Food Studies
Over the final weeks of Term 1, Year 10 Food Studies students investigated the important role food plays in bringing people together for special occasions. As part of the Reasons for Celebrating unit, students applied their learning by working in small groups to design and create a celebration cake.
Following the design process, students researched, planned and developed their ideas, including sketching and annotating cake designs, exploring icing techniques, and selecting decorations to suit their chosen theme. After completing their cakes, students evaluated their work by reflecting on their practical skills, time management, and any modifications made throughout the process.
I was extremely impressed by the focus, responsibility and pride demonstrated by students during their production. All students should be very proud of their achievements—well done!
