Community Holiday Programs
Media
In VCE Media 3/4 this term, students spent the day at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) to get inspired by the 2026 showing of Top Screens - the top-rated VCE Media student films in Victoria, selected from hundreds of entries. Students watched the best of the best student films of 2025 and found some great inspiration for their own productions in the process.
We also visited Game Worlds, ACMI’s current interactive exhibit on the history, production, and artistry behind great video games. Engaging with the behind-the-scenes production and planning for video game projects (as well as playing Dungeons and Dragons and a bunch of other great games) allowed students to examine what can be achieved in a media product if you engage fully with the pre-production process.
Overall it was a great day at ACMI, with students investigating both film and interactive media products while getting some great inspiration for their own work!

Visual Arts
What a great start to 2026 for our year 7 artists.
Year 7 have been exploring the elements of art. Diving into the elements whilst specifically focusing on the power of "implying" form through contrast and placement of marks on the paper.
Students are significantly and consciously using their agency, choosing the specific media that best translates their individual visions. While every student practices the same core technical skills, the works are as diverse and unique as the young artists themselves.
By blending technical applications with a deep respect for their own tools and workspaces, and those of others sitting around them, the students are successfully shifting from passive learners to active explorers in the art room and balancing this with a strong sense of communal responsibility.
Well done to all the learners in the rooms!

We’re very excited about our History of Rock concert in Term 2, featuring a special guest speaker, Mr Mark Evans, the original bass player for AC/DC. The date for this concert is currently TBC due to Mr Evans’ availability schedule.
Our ensembles have been busily preparing – from Choir to Concert Band to our Jazz Band, our String Ensemble and our brand new Junior Concert Band, as well as our host of rock and pop ensembles – we can’t wait to showcase all the musical talent of South Oakleigh College at this concert, as well as at our Performing Arts Carnival, Spring Concert, SOC’s Got Talent, OSPS Fete, and more!
