End Of Term 1:
College Captains
As we close out another wonderful term at the college, we would like to reflect on the events, highlights and successes.
On 16 March, the year 12s had their long-awaited jacket ceremony. The year 12 jackets have been in the making for a long time, with their designing, voting and ordering starting last year. The ceremony involved each year 12 being presented with their varsity-style jacket by two-year 7s, or their year 7 sibling. Each year, the ceremony is an amazing and symbolic initiation for everyone. Students had the chance to wear with pride their first and last names on the back of their jackets, so we hope all year 12s make good use of their new jackets and use this coming year as a chance to be role models and represent SOC as best they can.
Seeing the enthusiasm during our annual House Swimming Carnival and House Cup dodgeball and volleyball matches was fantastic, with both staff and students participating well. Congratulations to Banksia for winning the Swimming Carnival, and we’re looking forward to the continuation of the House Cup. The fervent engagement at the year 7 barbeque also nurtured better relationship among year 7s, as well as with the student leaders. With the sausage sizzle, fresh coffee, and live music, a great atmosphere contributed to a wonderful night.
Additionally, our annual Walkathon is coming up on the 2nd of April, where students come together as a community to get active and support the Monash Children’s Hospital School. Our fundraising has exceeded our goal of $50,000, which is great to see the support and enthusiasm our community has put in. Our upcoming Open Night is also coming up on the 1st of April, showcasing our special school to the wider community. Preparations have been great, with many students involved in various departments for a great invitation to our school to future students and families.
Closing an eventful term, leads to exciting upcoming months for the rest of the school year. May the two-week break be a chance for everyone to relax, spend time with friends and family, and recharge for the next term. We look forward to the next term and have a good break. See you in term 2!

Voices of the School: Behind the Mic this Term
This term has been a standout for the weekly podcast crew! The team has had a blast creating episodes that combine vital school updates with plenty of entertainment.
Our podcast is more than just a broadcast, it’s a celebration of who we are. It showcases our shared school spirit and the hard work that happens across the college every single week. We believe that sharing this journey together makes our community even better.
Join the Crew, we are always looking for fresh voices and new ideas. If you have a segment or you see us in the yard or you’d like to pitch something or want to help behind the scenes, reach out to myself, Soham and Aryan next time you see them.

Intermediate Volleyball
On Friday the 21st of March the year 9 and 10 boys volleyball A team were pumped up and ready for a full-on day of volleyball. We gathered in the gym at 8:30am and got on the minibus to head to Oakleigh Rec.
When we arrived, we were on duty and had to ref the other teams. We watched them play and soon enough it was our turn to play. There were 4 other schools competing with us: Wheelers Hill, Brentwood SC, St John Monash Science School, and Wellington SC. We played a lot of close games, some even going to 24-24 and sudden death to win the set.
There were a couple of highlights were in our last game of the day going up against Wellington SC. In the first set they beat us and they celebrated a lot, even when we messed up our serve. They had 2 players from state league in their team, but in the second set we started to win more points and level the scores often, boosting our morale. We outmatched their energy with celebrations and a positive team mindset.
Although we lost the competition, we had a fun time playing together and enjoyed the day. Special thanks to Mr Fernandes for coaching our team and taking us to Oakleigh Rec.
