End of Term 1:
Mathematics
It has been a fantastic Term 1 in Mathematics, with students across all year levels demonstrating a strong commitment to their learning. We have been particularly impressed by the high levels of effort shown in classrooms, with many students embracing challenges, asking thoughtful questions, and persisting with complex problems. It has been wonderful to see such a positive and focused learning environment.
Our staff also greatly appreciated the opportunity to connect with families during the recent parent-teacher conferences. These conversations are invaluable in supporting student progress – discussing strengths and areas for improvement and reflecting on goals. I know that some of my students had already achieved the goal they set for 2026.
A special highlight this Term comes from our Year 9 Accelerated Maths class, who have been applying their understanding of trigonometry in a hands-on and highly entertaining way. Students were tasked with designing and constructing their own ziplines using fishing wire, carefully calculating angles and lengths to create a ride that was both fun and safe. Their chosen test subjects? Superheroes, of course.
While many ziplines delivered smooth and successful journeys, not all superheroes were so fortunate… Some experienced rather dramatic (and slightly tragic!) endings as designs were put to the test. Despite a few “untimely deaths,” the project was a huge success, with students gaining a deeper understanding of trigonometry through creativity, teamwork and problem-solving.
We look forward to continuing to build on this enthusiasm for Maths throughout the year.
