End of Term 1:
Year 7 and 8 Tennis
On Thursday, I had the pleasure of taking the Year 7 and 8 boys tennis teams.
Although the weather was cold and wet, the students showed great resilience and did their best throughout the day. It was fantastic to see that everyone managed to get a few wins, which really highlighted the effort and skill on display.
Despite the challenging conditions, we were still able to play all our games, and the students handled it incredibly well. Overall, it was a great day with some awesome tennis played.

Monash Division Swimming Carnival
Our school had a great showing at the recent Monash Division Swimming Carnival, with 30 students representing SOC in the competition. The team put in a tremendous effort, demonstrating incredible skill, sportsmanship, and school pride throughout the event. Many of our swimmers earned podium finishes and 5 students have qualified for the next round of the competition. Furthermore, the 30 students who took part should be incredibly proud of their performances and the way they represented our school displaying HRRT values throughout the day. SOC came second in the Junior Aggregate Shield and fourth in the overall division competition.
The following students achieved podium finishes:
3rd: Alexia Mandile (Freestyle), Jade Burton (Freestyle & Breaststroke), Emma Burton (Backstroke & Butterfly), Zachary Tyapkin (Freestyle), Lukas Triferis (Backstroke), Kintan Chakraborty (Butterfly), 12-13 boys relay team
2nd: Anusha Kesarwani (Butterfly), Harry Mckinnon (Backstroke)
1st: Lily Geralis (50m & 100m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 50m Freestyle relay), Kintan Chakraborty (50m Breastroke), Nina Lane Nichols (Butterfly), Kirat Janagill & Ruby Nguyen (50m Freestyle relay).
Good luck to the students who came 1st at the division level of competition as they go on to represent the school in the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Swimming competition.
The Eastern Metropolitan Regional Swimming
This event was held at Aquanation on Monday 30th March. SOC was represented by 3 students who qualified for their events.
Lily Geralis swam in four events for the girls 14 years age group. Lily placed 3rd in the 100m Freestyle, 3rd in the 50m Butterfly and equal 3rd in the 50m Freestyle. Lily’s also achieved a personal best time for her 50m Butterfy and 100m Freestyle races.
Kintan Chakabourty placed 6th in his 50m Breastroke event. Nina Lane Nicholls swam up from her age group in the 16 years 50m Butterfly and placed 3rd in this event.

Junior Volleyball
The year 7 and 8 students represented the school to an exceptional level at volleyball.
Special mention to the year 7 girls team, who narrowly came 2nd, as well as the year 8 boys team, as well, losing in 3 sets to the eventual winners and coming 2nd.
Thanks to Sophie V, Agam B and Keitaro for helping coach on the day.
All the students played well and showed the school values through the day. They should all be proud of their efforts. Well done year 7s and 8s
