MIDDLE SCHOOL | Update

Dear Years 9 and 10 Parents/Carers and Students
Term 3 has been an action-packed term, full of diverse opportunities for our students to connect with their peers, teachers and wider community through classroom learning and extracurricular activities. Thank you to our Year 9 and 10 families for partnering with us to support your child to access and make the most of these opportunities.
There have been many highlights across the term that demonstrate our college pillars of Excellence, Aspiration and Community, including the Year 9 Cairns Trip, Year 10 Respectful Relationships Unit through Optima, Year 9 Humanities excursions to the Holocaust Museum and Monash University, VCE and VCE VM Taster Day for our Year 10 students, the Subject Selection and Tertiary Expo, Course Selection for Years 9 and 10, the production of Mary Poppins, Year 10 Outdoor and Environmental Education at the Murray River, and our Year 9 and 10 Term 3 Celebration Assemblies.
These opportunities would not be possible without the hard work and commitment of our staff, who continue to create meaningful learning experiences that challenge and support our students to thrive both within and beyond the classroom.
I would like to extend a special thank you to the Year 9 and 10 Middle School Team for their leadership and commitment to our students. The team works closely with students to maximise engagement at school, support their learning and wellbeing, and enable a smooth transition into Senior School. Thank you Mr Mark Quiambao, Ms Jasmine Rabinov, Ms Bianca Johnson, Ms Jo Beck, Ms Tahnee Richardson, Mr Gareth Fuller, Mr Tim Bunawan, Ms Olivia Beale and Ms Myriam Camilleri.
Celebrating our students
Throughout the term and at the conclusion of each term, we celebrate the achievements of our students in multiple ways. This includes through recognising house point winners, 100 percent attendance and through the Pillar Awards.
Our pillars of Aspiration, Community and Excellence are foundational themes and focus areas that support the realisation of our vision. They reflect the character and priorities of Frankston High School, guiding our decision making, and serving as a focal point for our strategic direction. We strive to recognise and celebrate examples of these in action.
- Aspiration Pillar: A focus on goal setting, perseverance, and an ongoing commitment to personal growth.
- Excellence Pillar: A focus on active contribution, collaboration, and leadership that strengthen the school and wider community.

Supporting positive attendance
One important enabler of student engagement is positive attendance. Striving to attend school every day ensures our students can access the support of their Middle School Team, Wellbeing Team and teachers, as well as the learning, friendship and extracurricular opportunities that build connection and belonging.
We understand that there are times when your child will need to miss school. Where possible, we encourage families to schedule holidays, medical and dental appointments outside of school hours to minimise disruption to learning.
If your child is well enough to attend school but is worried about friendships, schoolwork, assessments or other aspects of school, please encourage them to attend and reach out to us for support. Avoiding school can sometimes make these concerns feel bigger and can contribute to a pattern of non-attendance.
If you have specific concerns about your child's engagement, attendance, learning or wellbeing, please do not hesitate to contact the Middle School Team. We can work with you and your child to identify appropriate supports and, where helpful, arrange a Student Support Meeting.

Our Expectations – Safe, Respectful and Inclusive Schools
It is important that we continue to hold high expectations for ourselves and for one another. At Frankston High School, we are committed to providing a school environment where every student and every staff member feels safe, respected, included, and valued. Our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Empathy provide an important foundation for the way we behave, communicate and interact with others.
We expect students to:
- Respect themselves, others and our shared environment by acting safely, kindly, and fairly.
- Take Responsibility for their choices, behaviour and learning, and understand that our actions have an impact on others.
- Demonstrate Resilience by embracing challenges, learning from mistakes, and persevering when things are difficult.
- Show Empathy by considering the experiences and feelings of others and ensuring that everyone feels included and supported.
These expectations apply in classrooms, during breaks, on excursions and camps, in sporting activities, online and in every other aspect of school life.
There is no place in our school community for bullying, discrimination, racism or homophobic behaviour. We expect every member of our community to contribute to an environment where people are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background, identity, or differences. Creating a safe and inclusive school is a shared responsibility. We will continue to explicitly teach, reinforce and support these expectations, while responding appropriately when behaviours do not meet the standards we set for our community.
We understand families calendar book up quickly. Please see below for some important dates to note.
