Year Two

It has been another busy and exciting few weeks in Year 2! Students have been engaged in a range of learning experiences across all curriculum areas and have continued to show enthusiasm, curiosity and creativity in their learning.

Reading

In Reading, students have been focusing on asking questions before, during and after reading to help deepen their understanding of texts. We have explored questions about characters and their actions, thoughts and feelings. Students have also enjoyed continuing our author study on Stephen Michael King, exploring how illustrations help tell a story and create emotions for the reader.

Writing

In Writing, students created retells of Mutt Dog by Stephen Michael King. Students worked on sequencing events, including important details and using descriptive language to engage their audience.

Spelling

Our spelling focus has been on identifying and using verbs and nouns within our reading and writing tasks. Students have been learning how these word types help make sentences more detailed and meaningful.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students explored data by creating, analysing and interpreting graphs. They worked hard to answer questions about information presented and explain what the data showed. Our focus has now shifted to addition, where students are solving problems and learning a range of new strategies to support their mathematical thinking.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students have been investigating the properties of materials and exploring how materials can be reused and repurposed. Students have continued creating eco-bricks as part of our sustainability project and have shown great excitement and responsibility throughout the process.
