Wynspeak

Round 6

On Tuesday the 21st of May, two of our students, Abdul Ali and Simarpreet Sangha, represented Tarneit Senior College in Round 6 of the Wynspeak competitions, hosted by Mackillop Catholic Regional College.

Both students gave excellent speeches that entertained and engaged the audience; Abdul gave a comedic and thought-provoking presentation on the rising prices of chocolate bars in supermarkets and the impact of producing chocolate in third-world nations, whilst Simarpreet gave a passionate and moving presentation about the importance of pronouncing the names of people correctly in order to respect and preserve the cultural identity of those around us.

Whilst they did not make the finals this time around, both Abdul and Simarpreet came very close to winning the Round, and gave some of the best presentations ever delivered by students at our College. On behalf of the entire Tarneit Senior College community, we would like to congratulate them on their tremendous efforts and say how proud we are of them for making it this far into the competition!

Round 8

On Tuesday May 28th, Tarneit Senior College welcomed students and parents from across the Wyndham region for Round 8 of the Wyndham Public Speaking Competition. Students from six schools competed in the competition, including three students from Tarneit Senior College; Sobiya Fatima, Siya Garg and Lam Huynh. All of our students competed with professionalism, pride and creativity; they delivered speeches that were engaging, thought-provoking and passionate, including on food wastage, violence against women and the gender pay gap in the workforce. All three students placed high in the end results, including Lam Huynh, who won the improvised-speech division of the contest with an entertaining performance about a wedding gone wrong!

In a moment that the entire school community can celebrate, it is with great pride that Tarneit Senior College can congratulate Sobiya Fatima on winning Round 8 and advancing to the finals, which will take place on Friday the 7th of June at Thomas Carr College.

Tarneit Senior College would like to thank all of the students and staff who attended to support Sobiya, Lam and Siya as they represented the school, as well as the staff who helped set up and host our guests from across the region. We would also like to thank Rotary International for organising the event and supporting each and every contestant. On behalf of everyone in the school community - good luck in the finals, Sobiya!
