City of Great Geelong

The City of Greater Geelong has launched a campaign titled “We’re Here to Help – Not to Be Hurt”, which highlights the increasing issue of violence and aggression towards our dedicated council workers, including School Crossing Supervisors and our Parking Team.

The attached infographic outlines some concerning statistics:

  • A 99% increase in occupational violence incidents since 2018-19.
  • 25 incidents of physical assault and 140 incidents of verbal aggression reported in 2022-23 alone.
  • Occupational violence is now the most common health and safety issue for City employees.

These figures are alarming and underscore the urgent need to foster a culture of respect and kindness in our community. Our School Crossing Supervisors are out there every day ensuring the safety of children and families — they deserve to feel safe and supported in their roles.
