Year 10

As Year 10 wraps up another fantastic year, we sat down with 3 students to hear about their year and what's coming up for them!

How’s Year 10 going so far?

Really good. I’ve made really good connections with people I didn’t think I’d be friends with. I’ve also been able to connect more with Polly Farmer and have more opportunities to find out about Year 11. Today is our last day! We start the year 11 Step Up next week. But because we’re doing Year 11 and for some people even Year 12 classes, we start all our classes straight away. Since we’ve already had a taste today, teachers were like, “Cool — you’re doing the homework, and you’ll be working over the holidays. Get ready for VCE now.”Some classes are more lenient with getting used to how things will look across the year — like Art Creative Practice. But others, especially Specialists and Methods, they start classwork the day you begin.

What classes are you doing next year?

I’m doing Art Creative Practice, English, Methods, Specialist Maths, VET at the Gordon, and Drama — though I’m thinking of switching out of Drama. I really wanted Textiles but it didn’t go through, and I’d rather do something like Business or Food Tech since I don’t want to do three portfolio subjects.

What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year?

Just getting used to the new feeling of being in the new space and adjusting to different teachers. And just keeping friendships going and having a fun time.

Any plans for the weekend?

I'm in a Musical SpongeBob SquarePants through Centre Stage. I play the Mayor and we have 4 performances coming up on Saturday and Sunday! Through this week we have had 9 hour days of rehearsing, so it has been big. Looking forward to the shows!

How’s Year 10 going for you both?

Hanin: Good.

Wien: Yeah, good.

What have you enjoyed this term?

Hanin: I enjoyed the new teachers and CRTs here — how they teach the subjects.

What about SEED? What sports do you do?

Wien: SEED is great! I play basketball and footy

Hanin: I play basketball and soccer

What subjects are you doing next year?

Wien:  Business Management, Legal Studies, Psychology, English and General Maths.

Which one are you looking forward to most?

Wien: Business Management.

And you’re doing Business Management as well?

Hanin: Yeah.

What other subjects are you doing?

Hanin: Biology, Chemistry, Visual Arts — lots of science.

What will you miss most about Year 10?

Wien: The Year 10 community in general — it was fun.

Hanin: Yeah, this building as well.

Anything else you’ll miss?

Hanin: The community, the teachers… and a few friends are moving.

Year 12s - Class of 2025!

A wonderful Celebration Day was enjoyed by all Year 12 VCE, VCE-VM and VPC students. Everyone embraced the spirit of the day by dressing up as their favourite characters and making the most of the festivities, including a BBQ breakfast, Pizza and ice-cream van, mini games, awards, dancing, plenty of laughter, and of course a bit of clean-up afterwards.

Students are now completing their final assessment, Portfolio Interviews, an integral part of their Work Related Skills subject. These interviews give students the opportunity to showcase their achievements, reflect on their learning, and discuss their future goals.

Intention Interviews have also taken place with our careers practitioners Mel Whyte and Jo Parcell, who have been supporting students in applying for courses, traineeships or employment opportunities for 2026.

Year 12 Graduation Dinner and Formal – Tuesday 25 November Invitations have been sent to all Year 12 students and their families. Please RSVP by returning your form and making payment at the Goldsworthy Office as soon as possible.

Awards Day – Monday 15 December Permission forms must also be returned to the Goldsworthy Office promptly.

Year 11s

Our Year 11 VM and VPC students are busily working towards completing their Unit 1 and 2 subjects. Similar to the Year 12s, they have been collating evidence of their learning and growth into a portfolio presentation, which they will present to a panel of staff on either Thursday 6 November or Friday 7 November.

Following this, students will begin their Year 12 studies and Unit 3 and 4 subjects during the ‘Step Up’ program in Weeks 7 and 8, from Monday 17 November to Wednesday 26 November. Attendance is compulsory and contributes to each student’s overall attendance percentage, which is an essential requirement for achieving their VCE-VM or VPC certificate.

Students and families are invited to attend the VM/VPC Program Preparation Day on Friday 28 November. On this day, VM/VPC teachers and other Northern Bay College staff will be available to answer questions about 2026, including Xuno, uniforms, payments, VET courses, attendance, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, employment opportunities and more.

Year 11 VCE

Our Year 11 students are about to begin their first formal exam period — an important milestone in their learning journey. These exams mark the culmination of their studies and provide an opportunity to apply their knowledge, refine their study habits, and experience the structure and expectations of an exam.

While this period can feel challenging, it is also an invaluable learning experience as students prepare to enter their final year of schooling. Developing effective revision techniques, managing time under exam conditions, and learning how to approach different styles of questions will all serve them well in Year 12 and beyond. We encourage our Year 11s to approach these exams with confidence, focus, and a positive mindset. Remember, this is not only a test of knowledge but also an opportunity to grow and strengthen the skills that will support success in your final year.

Term 3 Homework Club Update

During Term 3, an incredible 234 student check-ins were recorded at Homework Club, a remarkable achievement and a clear reflection of our students’ growing commitment to their learning. This growth in participation highlights a positive cultural shift across our VCE cohort, with more students taking ownership of their studies, seeking support, and valuing the opportunity to learn collaboratively. Homework Club has become more than just a study space — it’s a place where dedication, curiosity, and mutual encouragement thrive. This improvement is more than a statistic — it’s evidence of a community that cares deeply about learning, growth, and success. Let’s keep this momentum going into Term 4 and beyond! A massive thank you to all of the VCE staff for their relentless support in this space and for this program and always putting students first.
