Polished Man Campaign
Throughout October, Wantirna College were raising money towards the Polished Man campaign. The campaign is aimed at raising money and awareness about the impact of domestic violence, particularly against women and children. Many staff painted a single fingernail blue, designed to both show their support for the campaign and also to start conversations with family and friends.
We ran two major events during October to raise money. The first was a staff Bake Sale where staff donated their time and money to prepare a range of delicious baked goods that were then purchased by other staff. The bake sale raised over $330 alone.
The second was an event in conjunction with some of our Year 11 VM students who organised a staff vs student kickball game on the oval. We had an icy-pole giveaway where students who had a painted nail collected a free icy pole. This was a terrific community event which engaged many of our students on a beautiful sunny afternoon.
Combining our bake sale with other staff donations, the Wantirna College Polished Man team raised $1050 towards the campaign. Well done to everyone for getting behind our events!
The statistics around domestic violence in our community are sobering to say the least. One in two children, and one in three women, experience violence each year. We have seen in the media, in the past fortnight or so, some terrible examples in Melbourne, and across Australia, of women and children being injured or killed in incidences of domestic violence. It is not too late to donate to the campaign.
