KIOSC STEM Decathlon 2023

Knox Innovation Opportunity & Sustainability Centre

On Tuesday 31 October, 7S travelled to KIOSC to compete in the STEM Decathlon Competition. Students competed against some of the other schools in our local region: Rowville, Bayswater and Scoresby.

There were ten challenges throughout the day within the fields of science, technology, engineering, and maths. The students were placed in teams and then competed in pairs, or individually, working hard to solve some rather complicated problems and puzzles. Each challenge was worth a certain number of points which accrued over the course of the day.

It was also a Halloween themed day, and there were a number of fun games held, such as Guess The Eyeballs in the Jar, with some very large jars of lollies to be won as prizes. Congratulations to Ella Cooke for taking home the large jar and Drew Morris for winning one of the smaller jars as prizes.

When it came time to announce the winners, Wantirna came out on top! The Wantirna teams absolutely smashed the competition taking out three of the four challenges and the overall trophy for the day!

A big congratulations to all the students for participating and giving all the challenges your best efforts, especially to Wantirna Team 4 for their win in the science challenge, and Wantirna Team 1 for their overall win.
