Year Six

We had a busy and rewarding final two weeks of Term 3, with students completing learning tasks across all curriculum areas and continuing their preparations for the Year 6 Exhibition.

Ranch Camp

Our Year 6 students enjoyed an exciting and memorable camp experience during Week 9. It was wonderful to see them challenge themselves, build their confidence and strengthen their friendships. Throughout camp, students demonstrated independence, resilience, teamwork and a willingness to try new things. We were incredibly proud of how they represented our school and supported one another.

Reading

In Reading, students explored emotive language and investigated how authors carefully selected words to influence a reader’s thoughts and feelings. They were also introduced to high-quality biography texts and examined how biographical information was presented.

Students developed their comprehension skills through texts from the Little People, Big Dreams series. They identified important information, made connections and considered how significant experiences, challenges and achievements shaped each person’s life.

Writing

In Writing, students investigated the purpose and key features of biographies. They explored how biographies informed readers about a person’s life, achievements, challenges and influence.

Students examined the structure of biographies and practised organising information chronologically. They completed scaffolded activities to identify effective introductions, significant life events, achievements and concluding statements.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students strengthened their understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages through a practical Plan a Trip investigation.

They applied their mathematical knowledge to real-world situations by creating budgets, calculating costs, comparing prices and identifying discounts. Students also revised the connections between fractions, decimals and percentages while making decisions about transport, accommodation and activities.

Year 6 Exhibition

Exhibition remained a significant focus as students continued preparing their projects. They worked collaboratively to complete their research, refine their written information and create engaging displays that clearly communicated their learning.

Groups also began implementing their chosen actions. These actions allowed students to apply their learning by making a positive difference, educating others or raising awareness about an issue connected to their inquiry.

End of Term

We were incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm and growth demonstrated by our Year 6 students throughout Term 3, particularly during camp and their Exhibition journey.

Thank you to our families for their continued encouragement and support. We hoped everyone enjoyed a safe, restful and well-deserved holiday break!
