Prep & Year 1 Art:
Weeks 9 and 10 have been super fun in Prep and Year 1 Art!
Over the past two weeks, our Year 1 students have begun inquiring into their new Central Idea, ‘Living things adapt to their environment,’ while our Prep students have also been getting ready for their Term 4 inquiry into living things.
Students have had lots of fun exploring the colourful and creative world of Pop Art, learning about famous Pop Art artists such as Romero Britto. They have explored Britto’s distinctive style and had fun creating their own artworks inspired by his use of bold colours, patterns and shapes, with a special focus on living things.
It has been wonderful to see our young artists experimenting with new techniques, embracing creativity and developing their understanding of how art can be used to represent the world around us!
Year 4 Visual Art
In Week 9, Year 4 students continued developing their clay fish sculptures by exploring the cool colour palette of blue, green and purple. After revisiting the characteristics of cool colours, students used watercolour paints to carefully add colour to their dry clay fish.
Students experimented with mixing different shades and tints of cool colours and explored how colour can create different moods and feelings in an artwork. They added patterns, lines, shapes and decorative details, making thoughtful colour choices to create a harmonious design.
Through this activity, students developed their understanding of how colour, pattern and detail can transform a three-dimensional artwork and communicate ideas and feelings. Students also reflected on how their cool-colour choices influenced the overall mood and feeling of their clay fish.
In Week 10, students reflected on their pottery learning throughout the term. They revisited important pottery terms, techniques and processes they have learned, including pinch, coil, slab, score, slip, structure and joining techniques. They used the Blooket App Quiz as a fun and interactive way to review and recall their pottery knowledge. Through the quiz, students challenged themselves to remember key vocabulary and identify the processes used when creating their clay artworks.
This activity encouraged students to become Reflective Learners and Thinkers as they considered what they had learned, consolidated their understanding and celebrated their progress in Visual Arts.
It’s been a wonderful Term 3 and students have enjoyed exploring clay and pottery, developing new skills and creating unique three-dimensional artworks.
I have been incredibly proud of their creativity, imagination and enthusiasm throughout the clay unit. It has been wonderful to see their individual ideas come to life! Well done, artists!
