From the Principal

Last week, Pre-Primary students surprised me with a visit to my office in traditional Japanese dress, all keen to practise their newly learnt Japanese language skills.  What a wonderful conversation it was, only limited really by my own lack of Japanese language.  It is always encouraging to witness students so confidently experimenting with their learning. It is also a lot of fun when the Primary students pay a visit.  Particularly impressive during this visit was how the students could clearly articulate the reasons why I should visit Japan.  The connection between language development and cultural understanding was so strong, even at such a young age.

Students experimenting with their learning in a different way through the prototyping, testing and refining of ideas has been showcased throughout the Secondary School this week. 

In celebration of Technologies Week, a Technology Showcase has been on display in the Library and included some amazing student creations.  The showcase shone a light on student creations in Wood, Textiles, Engineering, Foods, and Digital Technologies.  Outstanding work from students in Years 7 to 12 provided a look into the creativity and skill students gain from taking a Design and Digital Technologies course.  Some of the projects from Years 11 and 12 included personal woodworking projects like lathe-spun pens, coffee tables, and night stands with resin treatment, custom costume designs for musical performers, engineering projects like a 3D cement printer and refrigerator, and a catered staff lunch of soup and assorted sweets. 

Lastly, at the time of writing, final preparations are well underway for tonight’s Spring Soiree.  We look forward to what will no doubt be an excellent showcase of the College’s musical talent, even if touched with a tinge of sadness, given tonight’s performance will be the last soiree for our talented Year 12 musicians.
