Excursions

Our Year 3 & 4 students have recently been on exciting water-based excursions.
Year 4 Beach Clean Up
– Miss Sarah, Sustainability Leader
On the 9 May, our Year 4 cohort walked down to Princes Pier to meet volunteers from Beach Patrol 3207 for a beach and foreshore clean up. When they arrived, volunteers from Beach Patrol spoke to the students about how rubbish affects wildlife, especially dolphins and penguins, which are special to our bay.
Armed with gloves and tongs, each student collected around 50 pieces of rubbish. They focused on plastic items like bottle caps (we found 122 in total, unbelievable!), which can harm marine animals if swallowed. The students learned that rubbish from the city can be washed into the bay by wind and rain, showing how important it is for everyone to help keep our environment clean, even back in our local streets.
Although some rubbish was hard to see at first, it became more visible up close, especially the small plastic pieces in the sand. Beach Patrol collected all our rubbish - a staggering 18kgs removed from the environment in just 30 minutes! Our efforts made the beach cleaner and safer for animals, go team!
This hands-on activity not only helped the community but also taught the students the importance of looking after our environment.
Year 3 Waste Water Excursion
Our Year 3 students recently visited Werribee to discover how our waste water is treated. It was a surprisingly enjoyable and educational excursion. From the ‘Poo River’ to giant smell-sucking chimneys our Year 3’s had a ball.
"We drove passed the Poo River, it was so brown like the Yarra River. It was also super disgusting and cool at the same time. The Poo River had a chimney, it was so big. It sucks up 95% of the bad smell." – Chloe B
"I liked the bus tour because it was very fun and educational." – Rebecca C
"Everything there was fun and I liked it when we got to do the bus tour." – Lettie R
"My highlight was when there was a machine where you were a raindrop and you choose where you went and different options." – Jack R
"I think it was really good, I'd give it a 10 out of 10 rating." – Stevie P
