AWE Camp Update: Toogoolawah SHS Students at St George!

Our Toogoolawah High students are currently immersed in the AWE Camp at St George, experiencing firsthand the opportunities and challenges of agricultural life.

So far this week they’ve had an action-packed start:

  • Monday: A fascinating visit to South West Hay, learning about hay production and even having a go at syphoning in the irrigation paddocks.
  • Tuesday: Incredible insights at Lyolia Dorper Stud with Paul and Melissa Southern , followed by a tour of Dunbarr Feedlot, proudly owned by Ian and Sally Rigney.
  • Wednesday: Saw students getting hands-on with machinery used in the ag industry, touring the impressive Beardmore Cotton Gin, and even climbing over agricultural planes at Precision Aviation ✈️ – an unforgettable experience!
  • Thursday: They went out to Rod Avery Merino Sheep and Dunkerry Floral, diving into more of the region’s diverse agricultural operations.

The students didn’t just watch, they got stuck in with practical, hands-on activities including: tagging and banding sheep, preg-testing cattle and needling and ear-marking stock.

It’s been a fantastic learning journey so far and we are so proud of how our students have embraced every experience.
