Principal's Report
NAPLAN Update
NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all Australian students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9, designed to measure their essential literacy and numeracy skills against national standards. These online tests assess reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and numeracy, providing schools and governments with data to monitor student progress, identify areas for improvement, and inform educational programs. ACARA designs the tests and they are administered in March each year.
NAPLAN assessments are a snapshot in time of a student. It is only one measurement and is one piece of the puzzle to assist in understanding student's growth which is vital to remember when looking at the overall achievements and areas for growth for all individual students. NAPLAN results are however useful for individual schools, school networks, states and nationally for educators to consider trends in results/growth and areas for improvement.
Overall our students performed extremely well. The majority of all year 3 and 5 students at LPS were in the top two bands (strong and exceeding) for reading, writing and numeracy. NAPLAN results provide us an the opportunity to plan future teaching and learning needs.
Little Lancefield
Our Visual Arts teacher, Alex has been collaborating with the year 6 team, Travis and the Men's Shed to work on a very special project for LPS. Part one of Little Lancefield is well on the way and this week a very special guest, Nic Burridge (artist AND Alex's brother!), Alex, Travis and the year 6s worked at the Men's Shed sketching out the outlines for the Bendigo Bank and Lancefield Bakery. Cannot wait to see how the project (stage 1 2026) turns out, adding some great play spaces to our yard!
Staffing News
Kirsty has been offered an extension in her new role with North Eastern region and will not be returning to LPS. I am sure everyone will be sending her virtual warm wishes and all the very best for her new career move. Term 3 has been a challenging and extremely busy one for me while I have juggled multiple roles but have fortunately had great help from Kate (ES) taking on a wellbeing support role for the term. Moving forward there will be some new staffing & role clarification around wellbeing support, mental health in primary schools coordinator and and disability inclusion leader. I will keep you informed when all is finalised.

150th celebrations!
Paver Fundraiser: As part of our 150th celebrations we are running a fundraiser where pavers, similar to the ones located near the flagpole, can be purchased by individuals or families for $40 each. Pavers will be installed in the Little Lancefield area. Each paver can contain up to 48 letters.
Order forms will be sent home by the end of term 3.
Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th of November - we will be holding open mornings for our community to take a school tour and enjoy a Devonshire morning tea. Bookings are a must and will be advertised through TryBooking.
Friday 6th of November Whole School "Ye Olde Worlde Day" - 1850s dress up and bush band (school are covering the cost of this special event for all students). Parents will be invited to come along after school from 3.30pm-4.30pm to join in with some bush dancing fun and celebrations!
Lancefield Show
LPS School Council and Student Council are excited to let you know that we will be holding our LPS stall at the upcoming Lancefield Agricultural Show on Sunday 18th of October. We are asking families to kindly donate some prizes for our old-fashioned Lucky Dip.
We are asking for small prizes between $2 - $5 in value. Items can include but are not limited to:
Downballs
Stickers
Fidgets
Chocolate/Treats
Stationery
Stamps
Small toys
Small pieces of jewellery/charms
Bubbles
Hair ties/clips
Toy cars
Key rings
Temporary tattoos
Yo yo/slinky
The prizes for the Lucky Dip can be purchased brand new or donations from home (that are in excellent condition only please)
We are also seeking donations to support our “Pick A Prize” competition. Previously we have had a fabulous array of vouchers and items donated from a large range of local businesses, organisations and families. Please drop any donations into the office.
To make this event run smoothly we will be looking for parent/carer support on the day to assist with running the stall. Please contact the office to let us know your availability. We appreciate time being put aside on this day to support our school community.
Save the Date!
Our end of year whole school outdoor concert and art show will be held on Monday 14th December.
Our Art Show will be held in the gym open from 4-5pm followed by our whole school concert 5-6pm. Grab a good spot on the basketball court, byo chairs, picnic rug and snacks and be entertained by our fabulous students!
