The students and I have settled into our new art room creating new rhythms and routines. We are focusing on our term four Indigenous local artist and activist, Aretha Brown. A lot of students are already familiar with her mural works, as they have seen them around Melbourne streets. She created an art collective called “Kiss My Art” at the age of 19 and has 25 other artists working together to create mural art all over Melbourne and even other parts of the world. Her work can be seen at the NGV and this link below.

After sharing our thoughts and views of her work students have created their own Arehta Brown influence artworks. Students focused on their personal interests and drives and used these to inform their artworks. Students selected two acrylic paint colours and used these to create bold shapes, lines and patterns.

Our Grade 6 students are busily working on their graduation toys, designing and creating unique costumes for them. The students are full of enthusiasm and imagination, bringing to life some truly one-of-a-kind creations!

It has been another very busy and creative year in the art room. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the many families who have supported the art programme and the many creative endeavours of the children.

Safe holidays and see you all in 2026!
