Year 5/6

English

This term in English we are focussing on Poetry as a unit.  Students will be investigating imagery and vocab as well as the different structures and types of poems. Students will be learning about and applying different types of sentences (simple, compound and complex), and figurative language such as homophones, metaphors, alliteration and hyperbole.

Maths

To start the term we have been looking at the four operations.  We have added and subtracted large numbers using a variety of strategies with and without regrouping. We will be moving onto multiplication and division in the coming weeks and focussing on number facts and fluency of multiplication times tables.

Humanities

This term in Humanities, students have been exploring Australia and our neighbouring countries in Asia. Over the past few weeks, they’ve investigated migration, lifestyles, and populations across a range of Asian countries, building a richer understanding of how people live in different parts of the world. Through this learning, students have strengthened their geographical understanding and made thoughtful connections, identifying both similarities and differences between these countries and their own lives here in Moriac.

Events

This term we have already been lucky to have a number of events take place.  Our School Captains did an amazing job hosting a commemorative ceremony for ANZAC Day in Week 1 and this week we have seen our Year 3-6 try their best at both Athletics Day and Interschool Cross Country.  We could not be more proud of the effort of our students for respresenting our school.
