Prep

We have had a super busy start to term with lots and lots going on! We have been super impressed with how the kids have settled back into school routines.
Responsible Pet Ownership
In week 1, we had the opportunity to attend a Pet Ownership session. Students learnt about how to look after their cats and dogs. This involved making sure they have toys, food, water and microchips. Students learnt how to greet a dog and a few students were lucky to test their skills out, and got a chance to pat the dog.
Special Visit
On Wednesday, we had a lovely afternoon spending some time with a special person in our life to celebrate Mothers Day. Mums and grandmas enjoyed making flower pots. Students shared with their mum all the awesome things they love about them on the petals.
Brave Hearts
On Thursday, we have an incursion with Ditto. The students enjoyed singing songs and learning about ways we can keep out bodies safe. His easy rules to remember are:
- We all have the right to feel safe with people.
- It’s ok to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure.
- Nothing is so yucky that you can’t tell someone about it.
Literacy
In phonics, we have learnt some new sounds this term. So far we have explored the following letters: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, c, o, f, k, e, u, r, b, h, l, j, w and v. Students can say the sound and are now using the sounds to write words. We have been writing words and then using those words to write sentences. It has been wonderful to see students grow in confidence and try their best to write sentences independently!
In literacy, we have been learning about patterns in books and being able to predict what will come next. Students listened to different stories and identifed the patterns, then students created the next page of the story by continuing on the pattern. We have also been making text to text connections. While reading stories, students have been thinking about other stories they have read before to make the connections with that story. Our connections have been about characters, settings, problems and solutions.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, we have been learning about sequencing numbers and understanding which is less or more. Students can identify which one is bigger and using numberlines and counters to prove which is bigger. This week we learnt a new game called 'One Less.' You need a 4 by 4 game board with numbers from 8-0 and a 10 sided dice. When you roll the dice, you need to identify the number that is one less and you can cross it off. The first person to get 4 in a row wins!
We have also been exploring data. Students have been asking yes or no questions, tracking responses through tally marks or ticks and learning to interpret the data. We have asked questions like, have you been on a plane or do you like dogs?
Humanities
In Humanties, our topic is 'Where We Live.' We have focused on building an understanding of the importance of place/country to First Nations Australians. Students have shared special places to them and how different environments make them feel differently, for example the bush makes me feel relaxed and the beach makes me feel excited!
Reminders
On Fridays we swap our decodable readers and go to the library. Please make sure students have these books in their bags each week.
Thankyou for your ongoing support!
