3/4 CLASSROOM

Welcome back to Term 2. Students have settled well back into classroom routines, and it was lovely to hear about the enjoyable break everyone had.
The 3/4 students have had a productive start back at school.
In Spelling, students have been focusing on longer words and exploring open and closed syllables. This is supporting their ability to break words into manageable parts when reading and writing.
In Literacy, we have been reading short stories from our class novel Wongutha Tales. Students have been completing sentence-level writing tasks using vocabulary drawn from the stories. We have also begun our focus on explanatory writing, with an emphasis on sequencing language such as First, Then, After that, and Lastly to help structure ideas clearly.
In Religious Education, we are finishing our unit on Lent and Easter. Students have explored the story of Jesus’ resurrection, which led to thoughtful class discussions. To conclude the unit, students are creating posters or booklets explaining the meaning of Lent and Easter. Next week, we will begin our new unit, Circle of Life.
In Maths, students have been learning about time. They have been exploring am and pm, as well as calculating the duration of events. Students have also been becoming familiar with using stopwatches and enjoyed timing each other while running laps in preparation for Cross Country.
In Inquiry, we have introduced our new topic for the term: Healthy Habitats. Students have begun learning the difference between habitats and ecosystems and have been introduced to key scientific vocabulary such as biotic and abiotic.
In Auslan, Tim joined us this week. Students enjoyed learning and practising signs related to Lent and Easter, as well as AFL teams.
We look forward to a full and engaging term ahead.
