F/1/2 CLASSROOM

Welcome back to Term 2! It has been such a lovely start to the term, and it has been wonderful to see all of the students return to school happy, settled and ready to learn. We have spent the first few days reconnecting, revisiting our classroom routines and getting straight back into our learning.

In Literacy, students have jumped back in with great enthusiasm. Our Foundation students have already learned six letters, they are now beginning to blend the sounds to read simple words. Students will continue learning new letters each week and building confidence in their reading and writing. Our Year 1 students have been revising their learning from Term 1 and are beginning to explore new grammar concepts such as nouns and verbs. Year 2 students have been building on their spelling knowledge by looking at different ways to represent the /u/ sound, while also extending their understanding of adjectives and continuing to develop their comprehension skills.

In Numeracy, we have been focusing on building strong number understanding. Our Foundation students have been learning how numbers can be broken into smaller parts to help them make sense of numbers, while our Year 1 and 2 students have been revisiting addition and subtraction and beginning to apply different strategies to solve problems.

We have also begun our new Inquiry unit, where students are exploring different places and why they are important to people. Students will learn about different places in their world and how we can care for them. In Religion, students are learning about the Catholic Church and the celebration of Pentecost, helping them to understand its significance in our faith.

It has been fantastic to see students demonstrating our class expectations as they settle back into school routines.

I’m looking forward to a wonderful Term 2 ahead!
