Knowledge Building – Music for Tigers

We have recently started a new Knowledge Building topic based on the Australian novel Music for Tigers. This is a 25-session unit from the Department of Education’s ARC resources, and the students have already been thoroughly enjoying exploring the story, characters and themes. We are looking forward to continuing our learning and seeing where the story takes us!

Idioms

One of the highlights of our English learning has been our work with idioms. The students have had lots of fun exploring the difference between the literal and intended meanings of common idioms. They have written and drawn their own interpretations, with some very creative and hilarious literal pictures! Ollie has even gone the extra mile and created his own idiom picture book, which has been a fantastic example of enthusiasm and creativity. It has been wonderful to see the students enjoying their writing while also developing their understanding of language.

Maths – Fractions & Decimals

In Maths, we have been focusing on fractions and decimals, and the students have made some fantastic progress. They have become much more confident at finding equivalent fractions and have been working hard to understand how fractions can be converted into decimals. It has been great to see their confidence grow as they tackle increasingly challenging problems and explain their mathematical thinking.

Getting Ready for Year 5/6 Camp

There has also been plenty of excitement as we have started preparing for our upcoming Year 5/6 Camp. The students have loved receiving some information about the camp and finding out about the activities they will get to experience. There is already plenty of excitement (and a few questions!) about what is in store.

A quick reminder to please return your child’s medical forms as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Having these returned promptly helps us make sure everything is organised and ready for camp.

It has been another busy and productive few weeks in 4/5, and it has been fantastic to see the students continuing to learn, create and challenge themselves across all areas of the curriculum!
