Term 3 is up and running!

Term 3 has got off to a fantastic start with the celebration of 100 Days of Prep! It was wonderful to see so many students dressed up and enjoying the day with their classmates. A huge thank you to all of our families for the time and effort you put into creating such creative costumes. Your support helped make the day a very special and memorable celebration for our students.

Over the past two weeks, students have completed literacy and numeracy assessments. It has been fantastic to see the progress they have made since the beginning of the year. We are especially proud of the confidence they are developing and the pride they are showing in their learning as they continue to grow in both reading, writing and mathematics.

We are also looking forward to an exciting few weeks ahead. In Week 5, we will be heading on our excursion to Moonlight Sanctuary, followed by our swimming program in Weeks 7 and 8. These experiences provide wonderful opportunities for students to learn new skills, build confidence and create lasting memories with their classmates.

Our Learning - Term 3 Weeks 3 & 4

In English, students will: learn to read and write phonemes Stage 4+ letter-sounds. identify and say first, middle and final sounds in different words. segment and blend CVC words and unfamiliar words to create short sentences with independence. continue to punctuate sentences. continue to identify and use adjectives, nouns and verbs in their own sentences. continue to explore and create their own information texts. identify facts and opinions in a text and write facts about an animal. continue to identify the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts. make predictions, text to self-connections and text to text-connections in different texts. infer details about a character or event using clues from pictures in a book.
In Maths, students will: develop their knowledge of subtraction by: using correct vocabulary (eg: take away, fewer, less, How many are left?). identifying symbols and their meaning (- and =) and understanding how subtraction differs from addition. removing objects from the total number to identify what remains. continue to revisit and practice place value of 2-digit numbers by: making and counting stacks of tens. identifying tens and ones. identifying numbers without counting them one by one (subitising) counting to 20 and beyond.
In Inquiry, students will: continue to investigate Australian animals and create an animal habitat. explore natural environments and places that are special to them.
In SEL, students will: remember and practise our classroom and school routines. continue to use strategies to self-calm themselves when they are sad or mad learn how play fairly and include others. identify and use different acts of kindness.

News and Reminders:

Week 5: Monday 10th August. Moonlight Sanctuary Excursion.
Week 5 and Week 6: Friday August 14th - Tuesday 18th: Book fair. This will take place before and after school in the library.
Week 6: Tuesday 19th August: Curriculum Day. No students at school.
Week 7 and 8: Wednesday 26th August and Wednesday 2nd September: Swimming. Check Compass posts for further details.
Readers. Please continue to support your child by reading with them each day. As they learn new letters, sounds and words, regular practice helps build their confidence and improve their reading skills. Please ensure that when you read, you record this in their phonics books. This helps your child's teacher to acknowledge, celebrate and support your child's development further.
Library books. Remember to return library books on your child's library day.
