Year 6 Update

It's been another busy and rewarding few weeks in Year 6! From engaging classroom learning to hands-on experiences, we're proud to share some of the highlights from our students' journey.

Parliament Process Incursion

Our Year 6 students had a fantastic time participating in the Parliament Process incursion! Through an engaging and interactive role-play, students stepped into the shoes of Members of Parliament to experience firsthand how a bill becomes a law in the House of Representatives.  It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, teamwork and thoughtful discussion throughout the session. This hands-on experience was a valuable way to bring our Inquiry learning to life, and great fun was had by all!

Tree Planting Day

Year 6 students enthusiastically took part in Tree Planting Day, helping to make a positive contribution to our school environment. Students worked together to plant a range of small trees, as well as one larger plant for each class to care for throughout the year. They also helped turn over and prepare a garden bed for future planting. It was wonderful to see students demonstrating teamwork, responsibility and care for the environment while enjoying a valuable hands-on learning experience.

Year 6 Camp Update

All spots for the Year 6 camp have now been allocated. If your child has missed out on attending the Year 6 camp, we encourage you to email the office and be put on the waiting list. If camp positions become available, they will be offered in the order that students are positioned on the waiting list.

Learning Snapshot

Our Year 6 students have been actively engaged in a range of exciting learning experiences across the curriculum.

English: Students have begun studying our class novel, Help Around the House by Morris Gleitzman. Through the novel, they are developing their comprehension skills by analysing characters, themes and relationships, while making thoughtful connections between the text and the world around them.

Mathematics: In Mathematics, our focus is on division. Students are building confidence in selecting efficient mental and written strategies to solve division problems, applying these skills to real-world contexts and explaining their mathematical thinking.

SEL: Students are exploring positive gender relations, examining the importance of respect, equality and inclusion. Through class discussions and collaborative activities, they are developing an understanding of how positive relationships contribute to a safe and supportive community.

Inquiry: As part of our Civics and Citizenship unit, students are creating their own political parties. They are developing party values, policies and campaign ideas while learning about Australia's democratic system and the role political parties play in representing the views of the community.
