Year 5 Reminders
Please be aware that teachers will be re-establishing our routines with high expectations, including homework. Students are expected to complete spelling and reading each day at home. This term we have added an additional homework task, which students may complete over two weeks. These are not intended to be time intensive or demanding, but instead give students the opportunity to see what homework expectations will be like in higher year levels.
Current Learning
Maths
Over the past fortnight, the students have completed our Subtraction unit and have now begun learning about Division. Throughout this new unit, students will explore a variety of division strategies, strengthen their understanding of the relationship between multiplication and division, and develop confidence in solving division problems using efficient methods.
English
In English, we have continued our novel study of 1854: Do You Dare?, we are learning so much more about the Victorian Gold Rush and the experiences of those who lived during this significant time in Australian history.
Students have recently completed the final published copies of their information reports titled "Life on the Ballarat Goldfields." To bring their work to life, they stained their pages with coffee to create an aged appearance. The finished reports look fantastic, and students should be incredibly proud of the high quality work they have produced!.
Inquiry
In Inquiry we are looking at Australian History. Students will be learning about different parts of our history with a focus on the goldfields, linking back to our trip to Sovereign Hill last term.
SEL
This fortnight, students will begin Topic 8: Positive Gender Relations as part of the Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships program.
Throughout this topic, students will explore:
- Developing respectful relationships.
- Understanding empathy and respectful communication.
- Recognising the characteristics of healthy relationships.
Responding respectfully to differing opinions and perspectives.
These lessons encourage students to build positive relationships, think critically about fairness and inclusion, and contribute to a safe and respectful school community.
