Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity

Children have been encouraged to challenge themselves and try new experiences, supporting them to build resilience as they manage challenges, changes and setbacks. These experiences provide opportunities for children to recognise and celebrate their own strengths, interests and abilities while developing confidence and a growing sense of belonging within the kindergarten. Through small-group games, children have been developing positive relationships by cooperating, sharing and resolving conflicts together. 

Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world 

Children have been exploring light and shadows, investigating how light changes the way we see and interact with our environment. Through experimenting with torches, natural light, objects and shadows, children have been sharing ideas, working collaboratively and learning from one another.

During our Didge, Beats & Culture experience, children also explored Aboriginal culture and traditional practices. They learnt about Aboriginal tools, including boomerangs and their different uses, and explored the significance of possum/kangaroo skins. Children were introduced to ochre and charcoal and learnt how these natural materials can be used in artworks and body painting during dance and cultural practices. 

Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing 

Through our Kindness Campaign, children are also becoming more confident in communicating their needs, wants and feelings with their peers. They are practising using kind and respectful language, listening to others and expressing themselves appropriately. 

Children have been developing their physical wellbeing through active play and opportunities to challenge their physical skills through the outdoor climbing equipment. Through everyday self-care routines, children are becoming increasingly independent in managing their personal needs and understanding how these choices help their bodies to feel strong, healthy and ready to learn.

Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners  

This Term, each of the kinder groups are exploring the unit of inquiry on light, looking into the sources of light, how light changes what we see and the relationship between light and country, encompassing land, sky, water, flora and fauna.

Children have been exploring rainbows, investigating how they are created and discovering different ways we can create rainbow effects without using water and sun. They have been experimenting with prisms and CDs, observing how light can bend, reflect and separate into different colours. Children have also been developing their curiosity about shadows, wondering why some shadows appear coloured while others appear black. Through these hands-on investigations, children have been encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, test their ideas and share their discoveries with others.

Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators 

Children have been developing their communication skills as they explore their wonderings about the world around them, including asking questions such as, “Why is the sky blue?” Children have been sharing their ideas, findings and discoveries with their peers and educators, listening to different perspectives and working collaboratively to investigate their questions.
