Term 4 Is Here

And just like that, we’re into the final stretch of the year! We hope everyone had the chance to enjoy a well-earned break, recharge and come back ready for what’s ahead. Term 4 is always a busy one, with plenty happening across the Hub as we finish off the year together. There’s still lots to learn, plenty of opportunities to get involved and, of course, some fun along the way.

As we head towards the end of the year, we’ll also start looking ahead to what comes next. During our final three weeks of school, students will take part in Headstart, allowing them to begin their transition into Year 9. Students will get a feel for their new classes, routines and expectations, helping them head into next year feeling more familiar, confident and prepared. For now, though, let’s make the most of Term 4 and finish Year 8 on a high!

From Landforms to Finance: Year 8 Explores New Horizons

Our Year 8 Humanities students have successfully completed their recent unit on Geography Landscapes and Landforms, demonstrating outstanding knowledge of the different landforms of Earth and environmental analysis.  Transitioning in Term 4 into their new unit on Business and Economics, they are already gaining valuable insights into how the financial world operates gaining a deeper understanding of fundamental economic concepts.

From Clay to Creation

Our Year 8 students have been getting hands-on and creative with clay, shaping their own unique creations from scratch. Once their pieces were complete, they were carefully fired in the kiln to harden and prepare them for the next stage. The students then brought their creations to life with colour and detail as they painted their finished pieces, showcasing their creativity and individuality.

🎬 Lights, Camera, Creativity!

Our Year 8 students have been putting their creativity to work by making their own props for their class films. From planning and designing to creating the finishing touches, students have been bringing their ideas to life and adding their own unique details to their productions. It’s been fantastic to see their imagination, teamwork and practical skills come together as they prepare to make their films.

Baking Up a Bit of ANZAC Spirit 🍪

The Year 8 kitchen had a delicious smell filling the room as students rolled up their sleeves to make ANZAC biscuits. While measuring, mixing and baking, students explored a little piece of Australian history and the story behind this well-known biscuit. It was a lovely way to bring history into the kitchen, with plenty of hands-on learning (and hopefully a few tasty biscuits to enjoy at the end)

Foldable Picnic Table

Our Year 8 Woodwork students have kicked off an exciting new project this term: constructing their own foldable picnic tables. The workshop has been a hive of activity as students measured, aligned, and successfully joined their tabletop timber using dowel joints. It has been fantastic to see their attention to detail and patience during the glue-up stage, resulting in smooth, sturdy surfaces ready for the next steps.

With the tabletops complete, the focus has shifted to the folding leg assemblies. Students are currently learning to set up and operate the horizontal borer with great precision to drill the mating holes for the leg joints. Everyone has demonstrated excellent workshop safety and practical independence as these portable tables begin to take shape. Check out the photos below to see our young woodworkers hard at work!
