Welcome back to Term 4!
We hope our Year 7 students enjoyed a relaxing break and have returned feeling refreshed and ready for the final term of the year.
As we begin our final term together, we will also start looking ahead to the exciting transition from Year 7 to Year 8. This is an important time for students as they reflect on their achievements, recognise how much they have grown and prepare for the increased independence and responsibility that comes with being a Year 8 student.
Throughout the term, students will have opportunities to continue developing their organisation, confidence and resilience as they prepare for the next stage of their secondary school journey. We encourage students to embrace new challenges, ask questions, support their peers and take pride in their progress this year.
Let’s make Term 4 a positive and memorable finish to an exciting first year of secondary school!
Year 7 students who have a school-owned laptop are reminded to bring their device to school on the scheduled day for their class to ensure it can be updated. Please check the allocated schedule carefully and make sure your laptop is at school on the correct day. Having devices available as scheduled will help ensure updates can be completed efficiently and laptops returned to students promptly. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our school devices up to date!

ENGLISH
This term in English, students are exploring How to Bee by comparing characters, settings and viewpoints to deepen their understanding of the text. They examined how characters’ thoughts, feelings and experiences influence their actions and explored different perspectives throughout the story.
To finish off the week, students enjoyed a fun game of pat ball during their final English session, putting a smile on everyone’s face! See the fun in action pictured below.

MATHS
It has been a busy and varied year in 7Q Maths, with students exploring a wide range of mathematical ideas and finding ways to connect them to the world around us.
We have worked with angles and angle relationships, 2D and 3D shapes, algebra, BIDMAS, number patterns, fractions, probability, averages, data, integers and square numbers. Along the way, we have continued to develop our skills with the four operations, addition and subtraction fluency and times tables. Some of the highlights have been exploring enormous numbers and powers, connecting them to real-world examples such as the number of stars in the universe and atoms in a can of soft drink. We even discovered what a googolplex is!
We have also used real-world statistics, including AFL and FIFA World Cup data, to see how mathematics is used to understand sport and analyse results. Another favourite activity was planning a weekend in Melbourne using real V/Line timetables. Students used their understanding of time and the 24-hour clock to plan train journeys and work out their weekend schedules, putting their maths skills into a realistic situation. Across the year, we have focused on showing students that mathematics is more than just completing questions in a textbook. We have used maths to explore sport, travel, science, enormous numbers and real-world problems, while giving students plenty of opportunities to challenge themselves and enjoy their learning.

DRAMA
In Drama 7Q have been exploring the storytelling technique of tableaux, or frozen images. Without the ability to move or talk, the emphasis has really been on exaggeration of facial expression and use of levels, and 7Q have been smashing it.

FOOD TECH
Students in 7Q Food Tech have been developing their kitchen skills and knowledge of food safety and handling, learning the importance of personal hygiene, safe food preparation and responsible use of kitchen equipment. Throughout the term, students have prepared a range of fabulous meals, building their confidence, independence and practical cooking skills. Most recently, students created delicious bread quiches, applying their knowledge of measuring ingredients, following recipes and working safely in the kitchen. They have also explored ways to minimise food waste by making use of leftover bread crusts. It has been wonderful to see students developing their skills, working collaboratively and taking pride in the meals they create.

HUMANITIES
Year 7Q Humanities have been learning about Ancient China civilization. We have been focusing on different aspects: geographical features, dynasties, trade on the Silk Road, inventions, women's role in the society.
Students have developed a meaningful insight of analysing, evaluating, interpreting historical sources and comparing different point of views. They can identify the author's purpose and spot basic bias in primary sources to the historical context. A memorable achievement was when students planned their mock elections to vote for their favourite candidates.
I am proud of my 7Q Humanities students because they constantly show deep empathy, sharp critical thinking, and a true passion for understanding human history and culture.
