On Wednesday 27th May at 12:00pm, millions of children, parents, teachers, and library lovers across Australia came together to participate in the 2026 National Simultaneous Storytime. Now in its 26th year, National Simultaneous Storytime stands as one of Australia’s biggest collective reading events, with over 2.2 million participants last year.

The picture book chosen this year was Luna Roo: Kangaroo Baller by authors Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, illustrated by Jake Minton. 

Students across all year levels at Essendon North Primary School watched a live broadcast of the book being read by Matildas legend Elise Kellond-Knight or had the book read aloud to them in the library.
