Year Five

Dry to Dry Inspired Writing Pieces
In Term Two Writing, the Year Five students explored information texts inspired by the book Dry to Dry: The Seasons of Kakadu by Pamela Freeman. Students investigated how the text combines nonfiction information writing about the wet and dry seasons of Kakadu with fictional storytelling to create vivid and engaging descriptions.
Using Pamela Freeman’s descriptive writing style and the beautiful watercolour illustrations as inspiration, students created their own pieces of writing based on a location of their choice. They wrote two detailed information paragraphs that explored the seasons, landscape and environment of their chosen setting, carefully using descriptive vocabulary and factual information to engage their readers.
To publish their work, students used watercolour paints to creatively connect the seasons, colours and ideas within their writing. The final pieces beautifully showcased both their growing writing skills and their artistic creativity.
