Unit of Study: Health and Human Development Foundations 

 

 

Brief Description: Students are introduced to Health and Human Development concepts in preparation for their VCE studies. Topics include dimensions of health, health indicators, lifespan development, and Australian and global health status and issues.

 

 

At the conclusion of this unit of study students will have:

 

An understanding of key knowledge

  • Understand the holistic and dynamic nature of health and wellbeing across physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions.
  • Understand key health measurement tools (such as incidence, prevalence, morbidity, mortality, and life expectancy) used to assess Australian and global populations.
  • Understand factors influencing global health status, health inequities between countries, and international efforts to improve population health and human development.

 

Attained these key skills

  • Students can interpret, analyze, and draw conclusions from health data tables, graphs, and population health indicators.
  • Students can compare health status across different lifespan stages and evaluate variations between Australian and global population groups.
  • Students can apply foundational HHD concepts and key terminology to analyze contemporary health issues, scenarios, and health promotion initiatives.

 

Demonstrated the Victorian curriculum standards and capabilities relating to: 

  • Identities and change (VC2HP10P01, VC2HP10P02, VC2HP10P03)
  • Interacting with others (VC2HP10P04. VC2HP10P05, VC2HP10P07)
