Term 1

Text response: Students will read and analyse one novel. The selected novel will appear on the booklist and may be one of the following: The Great Gatsby  Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde  Pride and Prejudice, The Taming of The Shrew, Twelfth Night, Fahrenheit 451, Of Mice and Men or others.

Assessment:  Students will use the drafting process to complete an:

a) An analytical essay 

b) A creative response.

Term 2

Using language to persuade

How do writers persuade the audience? Students will read and analyse persuasive text focusing on how persuasive devices are used.

Assessment:  Students will use the drafting process to complete an:

a) Argument analysis essay

Exam: Text response essay and analysis of a persuasive text (2 hours & 15 min)

Term 3

Film as text- Students will view and analyse a film.

They will consider film devices,  director’s intent, close scene analysis, and explore salient themes.

Assessment: Students will use the drafting process to complete a:

 a) An analytical essay.

b)  A creative response.

Term 4

Persuasive Oral - Students will research a current issues and prepare a persuasive oral. Presentation as per the VCE requirements.

Exam: Text response and creative (2 hours & 15 min)
