Subject Name: Physical Education - Core

 

Description: Year 10 Physical Education

 

This practical-based Physical Education unit provides students with the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of team, net and wall sports and games. The program is designed to develop students’ physical skills, tactical understanding, teamwork and confidence across a variety of sporting contexts.

Throughout the unit, students will participate in sports based on student interest and may experience activities such as netball, soccer, football, hockey, basketball, speedball, lacrosse, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, badminton and pickleball

Students will explore and practise a range of skills and techniques to enhance their individual and team performance. They will also develop their understanding of the rules and conventions of each activity, including opportunities to score, officiate and umpire games.

. A key focus of the unit is developing students’ ability to think critically and make effective decisions during gameplay. Students will explore strategies, tactics, positioning, communication and problem-solving, applying their knowledge to improve both individual and team performance.

 

Students will have opportunities to:

  • Participate in a variety of team, net and wall sports and games.

  • Develop and refine sport-specific skills and techniques.

  • Apply strategies and tactics to different game situations.

  • Develop teamwork, communication and leadership skills.

  • Improve decision-making and problem-solving during gameplay.

  • Learn and apply the rules and scoring systems of different sports.

  • Develop confidence in scoring, umpiring and officiating.

  • Reflect on and evaluate their own and others’ performance.

  • Develop higher-order critical thinking skills through practical game situations.

 

 

 Scaffolding Learning

At the conclusion of this unit of study students will have: 

 

An understanding of key knowledge

  • Understand biomechanical principles related to various skills, such as footwork, and body positioning.

  • Understand and implement strategies, tactics, and game plans.

  • Recognise and apply principles of fair play, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

 

Attained these key skills 

  • Solve problems and make decisions in game scenarios, such as reading defences, identifying opportunities, and adapting strategies.

  • Analyse and improve performance through self-reflection, feedback, and skill refinement. 

  • Develop teamwork, communication, and cooperation skills

Moving the body

  • Perform and refine specialised movement skills in challenging movement situations (VCHPEM152)
  • Develop, implement and evaluate movement concepts and strategies for successful outcomes (VCHPEM154)
  • Evaluate own and others’ movement compositions, and provide and apply feedback in order to enhance performance situations (VCHPEM153)

Understanding movement

  • Analyse the impact of effort, space, time, objects and people when composing and performing movement sequences (VCHPEM156)

Learning through movement

  • Devise, implement and refine strategies demonstrating leadership and collaboration skills when working in groups or teams (VCHPEM158)
  • Transfer understanding from previous movement experiences to create solutions to movement challenges (VCHPEM159)
  • Reflect on how fair play and ethical behaviour can influence the outcomes of movement activities (VCHPEM160)
