Unit of Study: Health (Core)

Brief Description: Students explore the changes that they will experience throughout their lifespan, including topics relating to sexual health and respectful relationships. Students will explore consent, reproduction, contraception, and everything in between!

At the conclusion of this unit of study students will have:

An understanding of key knowledge

• Understand the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional changes that occur across human lifespan stages, with a focus on adolescent maturation and identity.
• Understand reproductive anatomy, the transmission and prevention of STIs, and the mechanics, accessibility, and efficacy of various contraceptive methods.
• Understand the legal and interpersonal definitions of consent, the dynamics of respectful relationships, and strategies for maintaining personal boundaries.

Attained these key skills

• Students can evaluate how individual choices, relationships, and societal/media influences impact long-term sexual health and wellbeing across the lifespan.
• Students can analyse complex relational scenarios to apply strategies for negotiating consent, establishing boundaries, and selecting appropriate contraceptive or STI protection methods.
• Students can identify and assess youth-friendly health support services, resources, and referral pathways for navigating sexual health, relationship, or transition challenges.
