Measuring Maths in Grade Five

Maths in Year Five over the past two  weeks has been all about estimation and measurement. We have found that sometimes our estimation skills need a little bit of work.

In our Measurement Match Challenge, we were given a target length, volume or weight and a selection of items. We selected one or more items that we believed would match the target the closest. Before measuring we estimated the volume, the length or the mass of our selected item. Then we used rulers, graded cylinders and scales to determine the actual volume, mass or length. We recorded our target, the estimation and then we compared the difference on a table.
