Thriving in Year Three

🧞‍♂️If we could rub a magic lamp and a genie came out to grant us three wishes for our students and their parents/carers as they head into their final term of Year 3, here is what we would wish for you:

  1. Our first wish is that you could look back and measure the incredible growth that happens in the first three terms of Year 3. Arguably the biggest leap in the Victorian and Australian primary schooling curriculum is from Year 2 to Year 3. This is also a key growth year for empathy and maturity with friendships.
  2. Our second wish is that you would remember the wonderful adventures that have been had in the first three terms: Fun and games, yes, but with the intent of also making learning deep, engaging and memorable. The meditation and routines, “being the teacher” and growing beans, seeing dinosaur skeletons and writing persuasive essays inspired by Ivan the gorilla, counting money and spinning the hands on clocks and yes, even handwriting and times-tables are all part of who the students are and who they are becoming.
  3. Our third wish is that you all stay the course. Term 4 still holds a lot of learning in its 10+ weeks. The routines and consistentency with reading and homework will help to continue to build resilience through persistence.

We hope you have a restful term break. Keep looking at those analogue clocks a counting notes and coins, measure and weigh baking ingredients together over the holidays to get ready for our first Mathematics unit, play games with addition and reach higher up the shelf for those books that add a challenge.

Thank you for thriving with us in the first Three Terms of Year 3!
