Year 3/4 Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

This term, students have continued to build their skills and confidence across Reading, Writing, Numeracy, Inquiry, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). We are proud of the effort, and enthusiasm they have demonstrated throughout their learning.

 Reading

In Reading, students have focused on developing their comprehension skills through a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. We have practised identifying the main idea, making predictions, drawing inferences, and using evidence from the text to support our thinking. Students have also been expanding their vocabulary and discussing how authors use language to engage readers and communicate meaning.  

 Writing

In Writing, students have been exploring narrative writing. They have created stories centred around people arriving in Australia and the challenges they may encounter. Students have learnt how to develop characters, describe settings, create engaging problems, and build effective solutions within their stories. They have also focused on using descriptive language, dialogue, and clear paragraph structure to make their writing more detailed and engaging.

 Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have been developing their understanding of multiplication through a variety of strategies and representations. We have focused on:

• Using arrays to represent multiplication facts.
• Partitioning numbers to solve multiplication problems efficiently.
• Building fluency with times tables.
• Applying multiplication knowledge to solve worded problems and real-life mathematical situations.

 Inquiry

In Inquiry, students have been learning about eSafety and the importance of protecting their privacy to support their safety and wellbeing online. They explored strategies for staying safe in digital spaces, including protecting personal information, recognising online risks, and demonstrating responsible online behaviour.

As part of this unit, students worked collaboratively to create a presentation project about how to stay safe online. They shared their findings with their peers, presented their learning, and participated in giving and receiving constructive feedback.  

 Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

In SEL, students have been participating in activities and games designed to strengthen their social and emotional skills. Our focus areas have included:

• Using games to develop and discuss problem-solving skills.
• Applying problem-solving strategies in a variety of situations.
• Learning ways to cope with strong emotions and manage challenging feelings.
• Building resilience, self-awareness, and positive relationships with others.
