We've enjoyed a lovely term 2 in the art room, with several projects complete and ready to be stored ready for the Arts Extravaganza exhibition in term 4.
PREP & 1/2:
Students began and completed their abstract Picasso-style portraits. They reviewed their knowledge about the Mindful Aus 6 Core Emotions and used these to choose how their faces were drawn and coloured with paint.
Later in the term, students began their study of the artwork of Eric Carle - they discussed texture and Carle's painting and collaging techniques. They then created their own textured paper in warm and cool colours using a variety of implements and experimenting with mixing different paint colours together. These paintings will be used to cut out shapes for their own collages based on the Eric Carle books The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Tiny Seed.
GRADE 3/4:
Students in grades 3 and 4 have now completed their junk relief sculptures. They carefully followed instructions and used appropriate tools to construct a shadow box, then over a number of weeks began gluing a large variety of 'junk' into the box to create an interesting sculpture. They chose from various plastics, toys, cardboard, tubes, electronics and (clean!) household recyclables, and learned how to effective adhere the items to the box and each other to create layers, shapes and clever composition. They then donned PPE and supervised a grown spray paint their artwork in the colour of their choice.
GRADE 5/6:
Students in grades 5 and 6 are well on the way to completing their 3D junk sculptures. Many have chosen to create animals, robots and various types of humanoid figures. Using hot glue, they carefully constructed their pieces using a wide range of different types of 'junk' including recyclables, cardboard, tubes, electronics, plastics and toys. They experimented with form and worked towards creating a recognisable figure with 'movement'. They supervised an adult complete a spray-painted undercoat, then painted the sculptures with acrylic paints in the style of their choice.
