Prep Report

Term 2, 2025

Congratulations to all our Prep students on completing their first evert semester of school! The Prep teachers are very proud of all the great learning students have displayed and the friendships have developed.

 

Literacy

In Phonics, students have:

  • continued learning about rhyming words and compound words
  • continued blending letters to read whole words
  • persisted in developing their handwriting skills
  • consolidated their understanding of how to spell short phonetic words

 

In Reading, students have:

  • consolidated making connections between letters and sounds
  • developed their ability to get their mouth ready for the first sounds in words and using pictures to help read words
  • participated in guided reading and conferences
  • looked at making predictions
  • recalling the characters, setting and series of events in fiction books to retell stories
  • recalling facts from non-fiction information books

In Writing, students have:

  • continued to write daily, focusing on being brave writers,
  • been recording sounds they hear in words
  • experimenting words the use of punctuation, e.g., capital letters at the start of sentences and people's names, a full stops at the end, and finger spaces.

In Handwriting, students have:

  • improved their fine motor skills, pencil grip and posture
  • continued to practice letter formation.

 

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have:

  • consolidated their understanding of counting forwards and backwards to 20
  • learnt about a variety of number combinations to make all numbers up to 10
  • learnt how to collect data and make data displays
  • learnt how to identify 2D objects in our school environment
  • learnt about positional language, e.g., in front, behind, underneath, above and on and used this vocabulary to follow step by step instructions
  • experimented with using coloured wooden rods to create symmetrical designs
  • consolidated their understanding of the days of the week, connected daily experiences to times of the day and sequentially ordered daily events.

 

 

  • SEL

    In Social and Emotional Learning, students have:

    - consolidated their understanding of the core emotions

    - continued expressing their emotions and giving reasons for their emotions

    - learnt about conflict resolution specific language and used this vocabulary to resolve conflicts with their peers

    - learnt how to show empathy and respect to others

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students have:

  • learnt about people in our community who help them, e.g., firefighters and police officers
  • learnt about road safety and how to be safe at home, e.g., look both ways before crossing a road and keeping metal objects out of electrical sockets.

Term 3 Reminders

  • School starts at 8:50am and ends at 3:10pm
  • The weather will still be cool, so please remember to bring jackets and jumpers which ar e clearly labelled with your child's name
  • High Frequency Words and Just RIght books will be sent home in the red satchels so please help your child practice their reading
  • Please bring a water bottle clearly labelled with your child's name
  • First day of Term 3 is on Monday the 21st of July
