Another great Term done! It has been an amazing Term 2 with all students engaged in a lot of learning and fun activities. Well done to all the 1/2 students.
In Reading:
- students are learning to make connections while reading: to other books they’ve read (text to text), to their own lives (text to self), and to the world around them (text to world)
- we’ve been practicing how to visualise – using the words in a story to make a picture or movie in our minds
- students are learning that good readers ask questions before, during, and after reading to help them understand better.
In Writing:
- learning how to write procedural texts- student made fun thing e.g. fairy bread and wrote the steps on how to make it.
- we also explored some exciting types of poetry!
- in our “If I Were…” poems, students imagined being something else, like an animal or a season
- our sense poems used sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch to describe things
- we had fun with acrostic poems, where each line starts with a letter of a word.
In Numeracy:
- we’ve been learning how to add and subtract by bridging to ten, which helps make tricky sums easier
- students explored fact families to see how numbers are connected through addition and subtraction
- we’ve been working on place value, learning how to expand numbers into hundreds, tens, and ones.
- students practiced renaming 2- and 3-digit numbers, like turning 135 into 1 hundred, 3 tens, and 5 ones
- in measurement, we’ve been learning about length – how to compare, order, and measure using informal and formal units.
