AUSLAN

This term, Auslan students worked to consolidate their sign vocabulary, adding numbers and revising colours, school signs, animals and adjectives. Regular practice of the alphabet also had students finger spelling their own names and identifying members of their family.
Students were introduced to Auslan story telling and used these short stories to help develop their understanding of signing structures and descriptive sign sequences. Using this knowledge, some students also took their learning to the next level, working in buddy pairs to connect a sequence of signs together in order to create their own short stories. Very impressive!
As Term 2 draws to an end, we look back at our first semester of Auslan at Roxburgh Park PS and think about how far we have come. No more than 5 months ago, students were introduced to a new language and already students are signing letters, colours, animals greetings and some are even signing short stories. It is quite remarkable to see how quickly young human minds can adopt a new communication system. Keep up the great work!
