ATGEO Fieldwork

Our ATAR Geography students got to put theory into practice on Thursday 13th August when they evaluated the success and limitations of three of Perth’s Transit Orientated Developments (TODs) as part of their Challenges impacting Perth depth study.

Students worked with Chisholm Catholic College to explore Subiaco, Wellard and Cockburn Metronet stations and surrounding housing as a way to address the challenges of urban sprawl and transportation. Students were fortunate to be addressed by Senior Lecturer at Murdoch University, Allan Johnston, who shared his wealth of knowledge of Subiaco and the design to make a "15 Minute City”. We are very appreciative of his time and learnt a lot.

On a perfect winter’s day, students travelled 102km across the city to evaluate the sustainability and liveability of Perth, which was a real eye opener. Fieldwork is an essential part of the Geography course and offers a real-world perspective to classroom learning.
