English and EAL Update Term 3

In term 3, UHS students participated in multiple writing competitions, incursions and Book Week activities to celebrate everything English related!
Earlier this term, our Year 9 and Year 12 English students attended performances by the Complete Works Theatre Company of Romeo and Juliet and Oedipus the King to kick off their studies of the plays. Likewise, our Year 12 EAL students enjoyed watching a performance as part of their study of the play Rainbow’s End.
The English and EAL Faculty is also incredibly proud of the Year 10 and 11 students who produced heartwarming and original creative writing pieces through memoirs and short stories. All English teachers would like to congratulate the following students on their achievements in these writing competitions:

Lastly, during our annual UHS Book Week, the English, EAL and Library teachers organised a range of fun activities for students (and staff!) to celebrate their love of reading and all things book related.
Our 2026 Book Week activities included a student-run blind café; three different writing workshops led by renowned authors Olivia Muscat, Lili Wilkinson and Ailsa Wild; guessing the English translations of book titles during the Polyglot Party; a book tasting, where students could enjoy tea and snacks; and Ailsa Wild taking on the role of roaming poet, giving out poems for students to cherish. As usual, Book Week ended with the fabulous Costume Parade in the Quad, and the English and EAL Faculty can’t wait to see even more costumes next year!
The English, EAL and Library Faculties hope that all students continue to write, read and enjoy their English studies at UHS!
