Year 9 Barrawarn Camp

Our final Barrawarn Camp of 2026 has wrapped up, with one more group of curious and courageous young people from J3, C1, G2 and T2 taking part. Students showed incredible resilience over the three days, embracing challenges such as catching the V/Line train, abseiling, sleeping in tents, cooking meals on trangias, completing a 12-kilometre uphill hike and canoeing.

In the Wurundjeri seasonal calendar, we are currently observing Poorneet (Tadpole Season), when the chill of winter begins to give way to the warmth of spring. We were fortunate to enjoy some sunshine, while also experiencing a few very chilly nights. Spending time on camp during Poorneet reminded us that before long our Year 9 students will begin their own transition into senior school. It was a joy to come together as a community on Country for one of the last times.

On the train journey home, students were tired but exhilarated by what they had achieved together. For many, the experience demonstrated that they were capable of far more than they had imagined on their own.
