Year 7 -Exploring Objects
This term Year 7 has begun the year of art with an exciting unit that will help students to develop fundamental drawing skills while exploring the fascinating history of drawing.
In class students have been learning how to observe and sketch objects with accuracy and creativity. Through different techniques, such as contour drawing, shading, and perspective, they have begun to see the world like an artist—where every object holds a story waiting to be captured on paper.
Throughout the term, students will experiment with different drawing materials, from pencil to charcoal, oil pastel and watercolour and study how artists from different periods used drawing in their work. By the end of the unit, they will have a portfolio of studies that showcase their growing skills and artistic confidence.
Year 9 - Take it to the Streets
This term, Year 9 Art students have been learning how artworks that are in public view can make a big impact on the general public.
Students will be able to compare and contrast the differences between gallery and public art spaces. Contemporary artists have been explored in class to understand the message of large scale public art and the use of social, political, ethical and environmental issues expressed in concepts. Students have followed by developing their own sculptural installations that were temporarily displayed within the College grounds on a social/political issue relating to them.
Aloysius Art Club
The Art Club has been a huge success this year. We have commenced with exploring basic drawing skills but have moved on to abstract works inspired by nature. Students have also been using Art Club for extra time to work on their art assessments. It is fantastic to see such enthusiasm for the arts. The Art Club runs every Tuesday from 3-4pm.
Musical Theatre Club
Our Musical Theatre Club has been buzzing with creativity every Thursday afternoon, and we want to extend a heartfelt thank‑you to Mrs Leonard for her passion, guidance, and steady leadership. Her commitment to nurturing our performers is at the heart of the club’s success.
Students are currently workshopping an original musical production, experimenting with scenes, songs, choreography, and character development. It’s been inspiring to watch them take risks, collaborate, and discover their strengths as performers and storytellers.
Each week brings new ideas, new energy, and plenty of laughter as the group shapes their vision for the stage. We’re excited to see this project continue to grow and can’t wait to share more as the production takes form.
