Grade 1 News

Welcome to Week 8!
It’s been a wonderful couple of weeks of learning in Grade 1.
Students have enjoyed exploring picture story books such as Edwina the Emu and Let’s Get a Pup. Through these stories, students have been building their vocabulary and learning about different types of texts, including informative and persuasive writing. We discussed how authors use words and pictures to share information or persuade the reader.
Students have also been practising Shared Reading at the end of each morning block. It has been wonderful to see students practise their reading fluency and have the opportunity to listen to their learning partners read as well. This time allows students to build confidence and support one another in their reading.
In Maths, we are now beginning to explore addition and subtraction, using different strategies and hands-on activities to help build understanding and confidence with these concepts.
In Religion, students have enjoyed discussing the symbols and importance of Holy Week. We have also been learning about Lent and discussing ways we can feel closer to Jesus during this special time.
We encourage families to continue supporting their child’s reading at home. Regular reading helps build confidence, fluency and a love of books. Even a few minutes of reading together each day can make a big difference!
We look forward to seeing a touch of orange as we celebrate Harmony Day on Thursday, recognising and celebrating the diversity of our community.
Thank you,
Grade 1 Team
