Spotlight on Learning

Galilee Community

Dear Families,

Our Foundation students have settled beautifully back into school life after the holidays. It’s been lovely to see them confidently following Term 1 routines while continuing to show safety, respect, and a positive attitude towards their learning.

Students are growing in independence, building positive relationships, and showing great enthusiasm as they share ideas and participate in class activities. We look forward to a wonderful term of continued learning and growth.

We look forward to celebrating together at our Mother’s Day Breakfast on Friday 8th May 2026.

Learning for the Week Ahead

Religious Education:

Next week in Religious Education, students will be learning about Mary, the mother of Jesus, and how she shows love and care to others. Students will explore how Mary listened to God and showed kindness, courage, and trust. We will also make connections to our own lives by thinking about ways we can show love and care to people around us.

English:

Next week we are reading "Pig The Pug" by Aaron Blabey. This story is about a greedy, selfish pug who learns an important lesson about sharing. Through humour and rhyme, the book shows the consequences of Pig’s behaviour in an engaging and memorable way for young readers.

We will also be exploring the book 'Welcome to Country' by Joy Murphy Wandin. This is a beautiful picture book that introduces students to the Aboriginal tradition of welcoming people to land. It explains the deep connection Aboriginal people have to Country and how communities show respect when entering someone else’s land. The story shares important cultural knowledge and traditions, helping children understand respect, belonging, and the significance of caring for the land.

During explicit phonics instruction, we will focus on the /e/ sound.

We introuce sounds based on the Little Learners Love Literacy book 'Milo's Birthday Surprise'.

Next week in Mathematics, students are learning to match numerals and collections to 20. Students will practise counting groups of objects or dots and linking them to the correct number. We will also explore different ways to represent numbers, helping students build confidence in recognising and matching quantities.

Integrated Curriculum:

Next week in Integrated Curriculum, we are learning how Cranbourne has changed over time and how food has changed. Students will explore examples of what Cranbourne was like in the past compared to now, and discover how new foods have been introduced over time. We will also learn that new people came to live on Bunurong Country and how this brought changes to the land and community.
