Spotlight on Learning
Bethany Community
Dear Families,
We have had a wonderful start to Term 2 and students are settling back into classroom routines positively. This week, students have been engaged in a range of learning experiences across the curriculum, including exploring climate hazards in Integrated Studies, practising communication skills in Auslan, and learning about trusted adults and help-seeking strategies in Social and Emotional Learning.
As the weather becomes cooler, please ensure students are bringing a named jumper or jacket to school each day. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in your child’s learning. We look forward to another fantastic week ahead.
Religious Education:
In Religious Education, students have been learning about Mary as a faithful disciple and a model for the Church. They have explored how the Holy Spirit helped Mary say “yes” to God and guided her actions. Students are developing their understanding of how Mary’s faith can inspire the way we live and respond to others.
English:
This week in English, students practised handwriting skills, typing fluency and punctuation in direct speech. They continued reading and responding to our class novel, , while building vocabulary and reading fluency. Students also developed their sentence-writing skills and planned, drafted and edited parts of a factual recount
Mathematics:
This week in Mathematics, students learned how to represent fractions with the same denominators on number lines. They practised placing, ordering and comparing improper fractions and mixed numerals, while developing their understanding of fraction size and value. Students used number lines to explain their thinking and build confidence when working with fractions.
Integrated Curriculum:
Students have been learning about bushfires and other climate hazards. They explored how different climate hazards occur and discussed the impacts these events can have on communities, people, animals and the environment. Students also developed their understanding of how individuals and communities can prepare for and respond to natural hazards.
Auslan:
This week in Auslan, students learned how facial expressions and body language can change the meaning of a sign. They practised showing the opposite of a sign by shaking their head while signing. Students worked on using clear movements and expressions to communicate meaning accurately and confidently.
Social & Emotional Learning:
This week in Social and Emotional Learning, students explored the importance of trusted adults and how to seek help when needed. They discussed the behaviours and qualities of trusted adults, including how trusted people speak, act and help others feel safe and supported. Students also identified trusted adults within the school community and practised naming people they can go to for support.
Please ensure that you are labelling your child's belongings.
Enjoy your weekend,
The Bethany Team
